To accompany our exhibition Dmitri Prigov. Theatre of Revolutionary Action, London-based artist Richard Crow (The Institution of Rot) presents an experimental immersive audio-visual performance that attempts to “make contact with the re-imagined body of Dmitri Prigov”.

An Evening with D.A.P (Dmitri Aleksandrovich Prigov): A Phantom Broadcast is both a sound séance, and “an active homage of hauntology” that connects places and people, times and spaces, uncanny sounds and disembodied voices.

As (any) performance exists within the tension between its enactment and its passing, sound even more so is captured in the paradox between its presence and its decay in the very moment it takes place. The occurrences in which a sound leaves a place, but remains in memory, and the slippages through recorded tokens all build up a scenario which references death as both absence and presence (obsession), burial as a symbol for fleeting audio phenomena captured and embedded in recording devices, and evocation as a ritualistic process in which recordings are re-played, re-staged and re-imagined. 

About the artist

Richard Crow inter-disciplinary artist, working in the field of experimental audio research and performance, with an MA in Sonic Arts from Middlesex University (2006). Crow manifests sound and noise for its disruptive, visceral and affective qualities and its psycho-physical implications for the listener. His solo and collaborative performances have consisted of highly conceptualised interventions into base materiality, investigations of alternative systems of organisation and research into a certain material decadence, most notably with the project The Institution of Rot.
