Art education in Britain and Russia in the post-communist era

Panellists include Richard Noble, Lecturer in Fine Art, Goldsmiths University; Joseph Backstein, founder and director of the; Institute of Contemporary Art (Moscow); Olesya Turkina, curator, critic and tutor at Smolny College Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences St. Petersburg State University.

The panel discussion reflects on points of commonality and difference within art education in Britain and Russia today. This event is organised in partnership with the Goldsmiths Department of Art and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow (ICA Moscow) as a result of their new student exchange programme. ICA Moscow was launched in 1991 as an independent non-profit organisation, as an initiative by several Moscow artists and critics to represent the alternative movements in Russian art of the 1970s-1980s.
