Join us for an intimate screening of two short films by Berlin-based collective Ogino Knauss and enjoy one last look at The afterlives of Modernity, the fourth and final instalment of the Power and Architecture season.
Curator Will Strong will be on hand to give his unique insight on the exhibition and the films, which accompany Ogino Knauss’ multi-media installation Re>Centering Periphery.

Dom Novogo Byta
Dom Novogo Byta is a journey into the built and imagined landscapes of Moscow, confronting the utopian 1920s of the avant-gardes with the current reality of post-communist Russia. Its focus is the dilapidated Narkomfin Building, one of the earliest projects to absorb the modernist principals of Le Corbusier, designed by Moisei Ginzburg in 1927 but barely surviving today.
The Narkomfin Building aimed to reform everyday life in Russia, but its utopian aspirations were soon annihilated by Stalin’s rise to power. From the story of the building, the film traverses imagined landscapes advanced by propaganda before getting lost in the harsh, newly urbanised periphery of contemporary Moscow.
Doble Forza
Doble Forza takes us to Alamar, a district built on the outskirts of Havana in the 1970s by citizens employed in the so-called system of microbrigadas, using rudimental prefab technologies inherited from the Soviets. This travelogue documents everyday occurrences in public spaces among Alamar’s nondescript tenements and huge empty lots left unfinished by urbanisation, transformed and appropriated by citizens.
The film explores life in this urban experiment and the history of a modest utopia and its simple, concrete achievements. It testifies to the advantages and defects of the participative construction process, mixing inhabitant’s voices and archival material with impressions captured while drifting through the urban landscape.
About Ogino Knauss
Ogino Knauss is a collective signature adopted in 1995 by Manuela Conti, Michele Lancuba and Lorenzo Tripodi. The project started as the Mutant Cinema Laboratory in a self-managed social centre in Florence.
Ogino Knauss realizes films, performances, installations, events, exhibitions, books, graphics and websites, and collaborates with activists, artists and academics.

A deposit of £5 will be taken in lieu of a ticket, which will be fully refunded when you attend the event or send someone else in your place. Not attending the event and not sending anyone else in your place will mean you lose your deposit.

We have a 12-hour cancellation policy, meaning you can cancel your ticket up to 12 hours before the event start time by emailing [email protected] and the deposit will be refunded to your account. For any cancellations made outside this time frame the deposit becomes non-refundable.
